Zara was born in Yerevan, the Capital of Armenia, in a family of hereditary musicians. At the age of five, Zara was enlisted in the special musical school of Tchaikovsky for Exceptional Children, which resulted in a Gold Medal from her studies.

Zara participated in numerous concerts, both in Yerevan and beyond its limits. Shortly after leaving school she was accepted in the Yerevan State Conservatory of Komitasa where she enlisted in postgraduate study and received her Doctorate’s Degree.

In May of 1985, Zara was entered into the Ballet hall of Yerevan State Opera & Ballet Theatre of Spendiarova (now known as the Armenian National Opera & Ballet Theatre) where she worked as the main leader until 2000.
