Testimonials
1. Revelle Academy's Dance Floors are genuine Wood Sprung floors .
"Semi-Sprung", or "Foam" type floors lack the ability to fully absorb the shock dancers experience when landing jumps, turns and difficult steps. The shock will be absorbed by the Back, Hips, Knees or Feet instead of the floor. Wood Sprung floors or Fully Floating floors absorb the most amount of shock from rigorous dancing.
Marley Flooring on top of the Sprung Floor is also important, especially for Pointe work as it provides a non-slip, reliable and durable surface.
Revelle Academy has 2.5-2.75 inch thick Select Maple Sprung Flooring in all 3 dance studios, and has Harlequin "Cascade" Marley Flooring in 2 of the studios. Marley is not ideal for Tap dancing, so the last studio remains a select Maple Wood Sprung Floor without Marley.
It is very expensive to install these fully Sprung Floors, and many studios do not invest in their students safety. Do not be fooled by cheap immitation flooring that is "semi-sprung". They do not
sufficiently absorb the full shock of the body landing a large jump, and are not suitable to be used by serious dancers.
