Paula Morris
Pilates and Yoga Instructor

As Our Pilates Instructor, Paula Morris is pleased to join Revelle Academy in its mission to develop students' proper technique through optimal body alignment, a strong core of muscle strength, & enhanced body awareness.
Long before pilates gained the commonplace notoriety it has today, it was a method of exercise known to dancers, athletes, & celebrities. Joseph H. Pilates created the series of over 500 challenging exercises as well as many pieces of apparatus meant to accompany the method & opened a small studio in New York in the early 1920's. He called his method "Contrology" for its precision of alignment & movement & for the tremendous strength & stability of the trunk muscles required to perform the exercises with the lightness and flowing movement of a dancer. George Balanchine & Marthe Graham were among his students as were members of their companies. One young ballerina of the Balanchine Company company, Romana Krysanowska, was sent to Mr. Pilates to recover from a serious ankle injury. In a short time not only was her injury fully healed but her dancing was better than ever due to the strengthening gained through Mr. Pilates' method. From that pointe on, Romana was forever a believer & practitioner, & when Joseph Pilates died in 1967, his wife asked Romana to carry on his work & henceforth people began to refer to it as "Pilates". At 87, she is still teaching and "doing" pilates now around the world, & has personally trained master teachers to carry on the method in its authentic form.
Paula completed over 800 hours of rigorous & exacting teacher training on all pilates apparatus including the matwork under master teachers trained by Romana & has been teaching for 4 years. In addition to her thorough knowledge & experience in teaching the Pilates method, Paula holds a Masters Degree in Education, has worked with children for 8 years as a public school teacher in Connecticut prior to shifting her teaching focus & moving to Florida. She is also a certified Yoga instructor & brings to her classes a passion & backgroung in Ballet as well.
