Courtney Smith
Modern Department

Courtney Smith has been dancing for years unending, and wouldn't have it any other way. Her passion and persistence lies in the world of modern dance and she is determined to perpetuate its existence via her 5'2" frame through performing, teaching and choreographing.
A graduate of Booker High School, she received her BFA in Dance from the University of Florida and has also attended numerous festivals and tours, which have culminated into her eclectic dance education.
She has performed the repertory works of Mark Haim, Michael Foley, Pamela Pietro, Nicholas Leichter, Elsa Valbuena, and Amy O'Neal, among others, throughout the world. She is a teacher of various dance styles in which an emphasis is placed on the technical and efficient movement of the body within the artistry of individualism and self-expression. She has had the opportunity to perform at the Bessie Shoenberg Residency at The Yard working with Cheng-Chieh Yu (L.A.) and Peter Sciscioli (NYC).
She is currently performing with Moving Current Dance Collective, Michael Foley Dance, Fuzion Dance and Gaudere Danza as well as teaching at various studios, high schools and colleges around the area. Her choreography has been described as 'very physical, cool, athletic, 3D movement' with a 'prickly emotional context' and has been performed throughout the country.
In 2006, she decided to put her vision of dance into action and created her own company Moving Ethos, which continues to perform at many venues both locally as well as nationally. She is delighted to be passing along her knowledge of this great art form to the next generation.
We are very excited to have Courtney with us as she has a very profound way of communicating and instructing her students. Her professionalism and attention to detail are a few of her many good qualities. We feel honored to have her instruct Revelle Academy Students.
